An Indonesian fisherman who is "half man half tree" has been offered new hope of recovery by an American doctor - and Vitamin A.

32-year-old Dede, who lives in a remote village in Indonesia with his two children, feared that he would be killed by the tree-like growths that cover his body.

Known locally as 'Tree Man' his condition has baffled local doctors for 20 years.

He has root like structures growing out of his body - branches that can grow up to 5cm a year and which protrude from his hands and feet, and welts covering his whole body.

SIMI VALLEY -- One local family whose loved one died in the Metrolink collision is still questioning something that happened that night.

They got several phone calls from 49-year-old Chuck Peck after the crash. But they now know he died on impact.

Peck's fiancee, Andrea Katz, told KTLA that the first call was to his son in Utah.

"...and he said my dad just called me and I said, what did he say? Is he okay? Where is he? He didn't say anything, the phone rang and it said dad," Peck's fiance Andrea Katz told KTLA.

The Paranormal Pastor: The Hauntings of Rachel [Saturday
September 20th, 2008 at 6:06pm]

There are some people who seem to attract the paranormal. They have a lifetime of incidents both intriguing and sometimes terrifying that they can refer to on any given subject of the unexplained. Be it ghostly hauntings, demonic influence or oppression, UFO encounters, or even cryptozoological sightings.

Rachel was that type of girl, and she had a wide variety of experiences with various entities since a young child. I met her last year at a business meeting, when by chance I mentioned my appreciation for unexplained phenomena. She was a waitress who had overheard a conversation between a colleague and myself on the subject of local hauntings. She was serving our lunch and as she laid the last platter on the table she could not help but stand there and listen. After a few moments she weighted in on the subject.

September 20th, 2008 at 5:54pm]

Soldiers barking orders at each other is so 20th Century. Loretta Lynn Calls in Expert to Tackle Ghosts [Wednesday
August 20th, 2008 at 5:38pm]

Country legend LORETTA LYNN has called on celebrity ghost whisperer JAMES VAN PRAAGH in a bid to rid her haunted mansion of spooks.
The singer has had enough of the spirits that haunt her sprawling Tennessee home, but spirit talker Van Praagh was only able to confirm the place is riddled with ghosts - before he darted for the door.
In a chilling segment on U.S. news show The Insider, Van Praagh told Lynn he could see "blood everywhere," adding "I think people were killed here."
And now even Lynn is thinking about fleeing the mansion after her guest refused to spend the night - as planned.
He says, "I was going to stay the night but when they (spirits) said, 'Get out,' I thought, 'I should probably get out...' It feels like I'm in somebody's place and they don't want me to disrupt it."

Fluorescent-Red Glowing Fish Found [Saturday
September 20th, 2008 at 4:36pm]
[ mood | hopeful ]

The red fluorescence of the highcrest triplefin fish, or Enneapterygius pusillus, can be seen when looking through a red filter (right). The fish appears a dull grey color under natural light.

Dr. Seuss had it right with "One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish." Only put the emphasis on red.

Scientists have found that red is a favorite color among some fish and have discovered several that actually fluoresce in the vibrant hue.

Until now, many researchers had considered the color red way out of fashion in the underwater realm, where red wavelengths of sunlight are immediately absorbed by seawater near the surface, said Nico Michiels of the University of Tübingen, Germany, who led a team that discovered the red fish.
